Player Overview

Jimmy Neesham excelled with both the bat and his performance in the World cup final game against England where he took three wickets and delivered the game-tying run out on the penultimate delivery was one of his best performances. In the Super Over, he was given the bat and managed to score 13 runs off 5 balls, including a big six against Jofra Archer. When Martin Guptill was run out trying to make a second run that would have given New Zealand the World Cup, he was at the non-end striker's for the final ball. He earned his debut for his country in a Twenty20 match during New Zealand's 2012–13 tour of South Africa, following some standout domestic season performances in the shorter formats. Neesham started his first-class career with Auckland, but his switch to Otago paid off as he produced some significant contributions in the 50-over format in the 2011–12 season, scoring three times 40 or more runs in seven innings at an average of more than a run per ball. He took a career-high 5 for 44 against Wellington and 4 for 23 against Canterbury, adding to his total of wickets. He was immediately rewarded with selection to the limited-overs squads for the tour to South Africa and his debuts in T20I and ODI. Neesham scored a century in his Test debut against India in February 2014, and he was at the other end when captain Brendon McCullum became the first Black Cap to record a triple century in a Test. When he reached a century against the West Indies in Jamaica, he became just the eighth player in Test history to do so.
